What Is Male Rhinoplasty?

Male rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at reshaping or resizing a man’s nose to improve its appearance and, in some cases, its function. This type of rhinoplasty considers men’s unique aesthetic goals, facial structure, and skin thickness, ensuring results that harmonize with the patient’s masculine features. The procedure can address various concerns, including the size and shape of the nose, the angle between the nose and the upper lip, and nasal function issues like breathing difficulties.

Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) is a popular procedure for men. Bringing the nose into balance with the rest of the face can dramatically improve a man’s appearance. In some cases, rhinoplasty is combined with a chin implant to balance the face further and improve the jawline.

Who Are the Best Candidates For Male Rhinoplasty?

Good candidates for male rhinoplasty are individuals seeking to improve the appearance and/or function of their nose in a way that aligns with their overall facial features and preserves masculine characteristics. Candidates should be in good general health, non-smokers (or willing to quit), and have realistic expectations about the surgery’s outcomes. Emotional maturity and a clear understanding of the procedure’s limitations are also important. Functional candidates may experience breathing difficulties due to nasal structural issues, such as a deviated septum.

What Are the Benefits of Male Rhinoplasty?

  • Improved Appearance – One of the primary benefits is enhancing the nose’s appearance, making it more proportional to the rest of the face. It can straighten the nose, increase or decrease its size, change the tip or bridge shape, and correct asymmetry, resulting in improved facial harmony.
  • Corrected Breathing Issues – Beyond aesthetic improvements, rhinoplasty can correct structural abnormalities that impair breathing, such as a deviated septum. Improving nasal airflow can significantly enhance sleep quality, exercise capability, and comfort.
  • Customized Results – Rhinoplasty for men is tailored to preserve masculine features, ensuring that results are natural-looking and appropriate to the patient’s gender and overall facial structure. The procedure accounts for factors such as skin thickness, facial angles, and facial feature size to maintain a masculine appearance.
  • Permanent Solution – While some cosmetic treatments require ongoing maintenance, the rhinoplasty results are permanent. After a single surgery and recovery, patients can enjoy the benefits for a lifetime without the need for repeat procedures.

What’s the First Step?

To get started with male rhinoplasty with Dr. Moradzadeh in Los Angeles, CA, you will first attend a detailed consultation, which includes a medical assessment and physical evaluation. The doctor will listen to your goals for improvement, answer all your questions, and ensure you clearly understand the procedure’s risks, recovery requirements, costs, and potential outcomes. Dr. Moradzadeh will also discuss the surgical techniques he plans to use and where your incisions will be. Finally, once you are approved and ready to proceed, our team will schedule your surgery and provide a pre-treatment checklist to help you prepare for your procedure.

What to Expect on the Day of Male Rhinoplasty Surgery

Dr. Moradzadeh will make an incision, usually placed within the nostril, to the framework of the nose. He then removes cartilage to reduce the size or shape of the nose (or, if the opposite result is desired, tissue may be added to increase its size). The septum may be trimmed to correct droopiness or may be realigned to correct breathing problems.

At the end of the surgery, a splint will be placed on the outside of the nose and, if needed, on the inside as well. These splints are used to protect the nasal structures, which are temporarily delicate following the procedure.

A rhinoplasty can take 1 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. This surgery is done on an outpatient basis with general or local anesthesia.

Your Guide to Post-Male Rhinoplasty Care

Patients may experience bruising and swelling, which typically improve over 2 to 4 weeks. A splint will be placed on the outside of the nose and, if needed, on the inside as well. These splints are used to protect the nasal structures, which are temporarily delicate following the procedure.

Bed rest is recommended on the day of surgery, and activity should be limited for the next 2 days. Patients should avoid strenuous activities for about four to six weeks after rhinoplasty, but they can generally return to work in one week.
