What Is a Male Facelift?
Many men undergo facelift surgery to maintain a competitive edge in the workplace or simply to look as young as they feel. A variety of factors – including environmental conditions, repeated exposure to the California sun or smoke, and even hereditary factors – can have a deleterious effect on the skin, creating a tired, aged appearance. Over time, it becomes more difficult to tighten the skin back to its original shape.
A facelift addresses the jowl area below the mouth. For smaller areas of skin, a minimally invasive ‘mini lift’ or ‘quick lift’ can be performed to tighten the skin and underlying tissues in that area.
For more significant skin redundancy, a full facelift and neck lift can be performed to tighten the underlying facial support and redrape the skin. In male facelift patients, careful attention must be paid to the beard and hairline around the ear. While in women the incision for facelift surgery is made behind the tragus or ear cartilage, in men the incision is made in front of the ear to avoid pulling undesired hair onto the ear. Men also have shorter hairstyles, which limit the ability to hide scars with hair, so Dr. Moradzadeh takes particular care to ensure the incision lines are well hidden. Overall, the emphasis in male facelifts is on refining and sharpening the jaw and neck to preserve a strong masculine appearance.
